Picture Perfect

This topic was raised in class that day - can we ever achieve a perfect society?

So what comprises a perfect society? Is it one where everyone is happy and carefree? Or is it one with pain and suffering? Or maybe one that strikes a balance with both?

We have many problems in society because of many imperfections. We are fighting a war against terrorism. Every day you read the newspapers and there is a report of some arson or burglary. But why is it there are so many bad news?

Then again, will a society be a society if it has no worries, no problems and that everyone is happy all the time? If this is the case, we would wake up every day expecting things to go our way. At first, we would be excited for all the good things that happen. But as time goes by, we would get bored - of life! - because there we know things would always end up well. There is no putting in of effort at all. We would just sit and wait for success to come knocking.

So is there ever something like a perfect society?

Sadly though, without the pain and suffering, a society won't be one. It would be heaven. But with such things, it wouldn't be ideal too.
